Since I started doing classes last semester I have found that I analyze most sites that I visit. I find things that I like and things that I dislike. It can become very time consuming when I am just browsing through sites, but I enjoy doing it. Now that it is an assignment I try to find the worse sites that I can and check them out.
When it comes to bad web sites I do a search to try and find the worse sites out there and of course everybody has their opinions about what are bad designed web sites. I look at a lot of different sites when I do this search. When I first checked this site out it was just a strip down the middle of the page. Now it has information down the left side. The site I picked is http://www.angelfire.com/super/badwebs/. No it is not pleasing to look at. This page has to much movement in different directions for me and then add the sparkles and wow. The color scheme is pretty vivid and it doesn’t work for colorblindness. Not to sure if you would call the items on the left navigation and if that is navigation, it needs some work. I can’t say that I really liked anything about this site and what I liked least is the color scheme, navigation and lack of content. This site is done with tables and not CSS and it didn’t validate. It has 40 errors and 5 warnings.
I decided to take a chance on a site that we all use. I enjoy using this site. It is a very nicely designed site and the navigation is great and easy to use. It downloads quickly. The color scheme is very appealing and it works for people with color blindness. This site is designed using both tables and CSS which works great within this site. Does it validate? No. It didn’t do to bad. It has 23 errors and 9 warnings. The site is http://www.csi.edu/ . I just checked the front page of this site for validation. I think we will all agree that this is a great site and easy to navigate.
The next site that I decided to check out is another one that I use and I am sure that a lot of us do. I didn’t sign in I just worked off of the main page just to see how it checked out. It is pleasing to look at and the navigation is easy to maneuver. This site works for color blindness. I checked to see if they used tables or CSS and I couldn’t find any tables and it looks like all the JavaScript and CSS is done within the HTML. I don’t know how they can keep it updated. This site doesn’t validate either. The front page has 129 errors and 25 warnings. I have to say that I enjoy this site, but sometimes people put so much on their personal layouts that it is time consuming when it comes to downloads. This site is http://www.myspace.com/.
I am sure that there is a lot of sites that don’t validate and the navigation don’t work and the download time is terrible, but we continue to use them. Hopefully when one of use get to the point that we can design sites for clients, we will remember the things that we have learned from our instructors and courses.

My goodness that bad site is something. Is it a joke? Wow, that is some color palette choice. How the top area moves around it is very distracting. I do not know what is worse the orange with grass (?) growing or the banner zone. Colorblindness—forget about it. That site is crazy! Very nice choice; how did you find that, are you a member?
Have to love myspace and what is always going on there.
Over all I do not mind CSI web site, it is their MyCSI that drives me bonkers with that disabled back button deal. Don't get me going on their email service… I use the CSI Web site daily to pick up math homework and have found their directory a great tool.
It sounded to me like that first site was an example of a bad site purposely posted for that reason. They did a good job, it was really bad.
Overall the CSI site is pretty good, although I agree with Jason that MyCSI and the email are just plain evil. Even though it's a really good bit of CSS, I don't actually like the subnavigation that pops out of the main navigation. I'm not a very steady mouser, and I usually find that it takes me 3 or 4 times to actually click on the link I want. It gets really frustrating. And I always have the hardest time finding the semester calendar--you know, what day school starts, what days are holidays, and so on. That should be right on the home page, but I always have to search for it. Those are pretty minor complains, overall it's not bad.
That sub-navigation on the CSI Web site does move much to quickly. I was told be Teresa Sept that there is some function within Dreamweaver to control that. Never found it though. I find myself always having to re-click the main navigation just like Rachael mentioned. Semester calendar where is that? Never viewed that before, must be hidden deep inside the site; yeah it should be right there on the front page or a quick link.
I 'm still chuckling about Carla's bad Web site, that was something. Carla, I meant it as a joke about you being a member of the site. I was still puzzled how they did the whole site.
I agree with everyone, the bad site is awful. It is so bad, I had a hard time getting through all of the points it was trying to make. There is defiantly something to be learned there.
I am glad I am not the only one that has such trouble with the CSI email. I re-typed an email 4 times before giving up when school started. I agree with Rachael as well about the navigation. Each item is so small it is easy to slide off to the side and have to start over.
I enjoy spending time at myspace, as well. It is nice that anyone can set up a page the way they want. But there are so many spaces that are hard to read and have way too much stuff on them (mine included-I need a myspace overhaul). And my personal pet-peeve: the music that plays by itself on so many people's pages. I am usually listening to my own music, and this mixture gives me a headache.
I wouldnt call that the worst website i remember some from the 90's that i came across. Does anybody remember animated gif's with every button dancing on the page. CSI does have an okay site i especially like the links at the top of the page that takes you to blackboard and email. Personally i think that if you can create sites that validate the better off you are going to be as a web developer. Or in other words the more information you have the better you will be able to use it.
